I-74 Series: Black Partridge Open

Postby shirvbc on Thu Jul 23, 2009 9:33 am

PAMBA is proud to present the inaugural Black Partridge Open on Aug 9. This is Race #4 in the I-74 Homegrown Mountain Bike Race Series at our new park in Metamora. This trail system was designed by Mountain Bikers for Mountain Bikers and was built in cooperation with the Metamora Park District. The race course will cover 7.5 miles of fast and flowing singletrack with two grunting climbs - the race should be a blast. Racers will want to pre-ride this course, and for those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of riding Black Partridge Park yet, you have two more options for a guided tour: 1) Monday nights 7/27 and 8/3 we will have our weekly show ‘n’ go rides at the park (check the message board for updates) and 2) On Saturday and Sunday 8/1 & 8/2 at 10:00 we will be out doing some weed whacking and pre-race clean-up of the trails, so feel free to come out and help us, bring your bike, and catch a guided tour after we finish working.

A couple people here have ridden with me...what division should I be in? I've been riding for several years, but I don't have a racers endurance. I don't have the lightest bike either.

Novice is what I would guess.

Online registration is now up and running. Sorry for the delay... a miscommunication with our web host kinda set us back a few days. Please visit the race page or click on any of the BPP posters and it will take you to registration.

I haven't ridden with you Kendal, but I'll tell you what I did for my first race. I rode the race course a week ahead of time at as close to race pace as possible. After one lap, I decided whether or not I could handle another one or two at the same pace. Then I chose my category. My advice then is to go out to BP and blast a lap at race pace. If it feels like you could do another lap, you could start with sport. On the other hand, novice is always a great place to start racing. You can always move up for the next race if you need to.

Hey Kendal you do the trail runs don't you ? if thats you :? your fast enough for sport, this course has only a couple of climbs and you won't get much of a work out for 1 lap.

I don't want you to feel like you didn't get your money worth ;) We could add a lap to sport and expert but Tony and I want to keep our miles in the 15-16 sport and 21-24 range like we always have.

I like Betsy's Idea to !

Yeah, I think I rode with you after the meeting.

I've ridden BP a couple times, but the opposite direction of the race course. I'll have to ride it some more to get a better feel for it.

Nice videos!

If anyone found a small "Hero" video camera let me know, a friend drove off with it on his car. It looks like a tiny digital camera without the LCD screen and inside a waterproof case.

BPP was an Awesome place for a race... Good shaded areas, pavilions, and the hose was a life saver afterwards to cool off. And with all of the pre-riding, the top trails were considerably smoother than just 3 weeks ago, so next year they will be even better.

Thanks to the whole Pamba team... Tony I was relieved to see you working instead of racing after you pulled me around the trail like a rag doll earlier that week ; )
